Movingblack engages with past and present stories
Movingblack is a different kind of independent travel blog. Authored by a seasoned black packer who has lived on three continents and visited them all. Blogger London believes travel and travel writing are not progressive unless you make it so; there is a lot of blood in the hands of travel writing. Travelogues have played a vital role in creating a popular imagination in which people sufficiently characterized as different, alien, and that they’re not fully human. Like early anthropology, the last three centuries of European travel writing have provided evidence of white superiority through representations of ‘the exotic.’
With this in mind, movingblack engages with the history, culture and present-day realities of peoples in the places visited. Aiming to contribute to black people, independent travelers, thinking about their vacation choices and the role they play in those locations. Movingblack is a different kind of blog. It’s where adventures, conversations, and thoughts on travel, identity, stories past and present intertwine. London describes her travel experiences through the view of a black British woman of Caribbean heritage. Middle passage, emigration, immigration, backpacking, crossing seas are different when you’re black.
