Black Travel Storytime by Tryphena Wade
I stood atop a smoking volcano in Hawaii and prayed: “Dear Jesus, I want to be a travel writer,” and shortly after, wedontsitoncouches was born. What began as a hashtag on my Instagram pictures has blossomed into a blog, a podcast, a t-shirt line, and book. I am a professional actor/singer and have performed all over the world and in the National Tour and Broadway productions of “The Lion King” so travel has been a requirement. However, truly seeing the world has always been a dream of mine. I began sharing my treks and adventures, both within and outside of the U.S.
The journey has been so rewarding ever since I have recently thrown myself full-force into the world of travel blogging! I have found a vehicle to inspire and educate. My motto is “Fear Is Stupid.” My goal is to inspire others to live fearlessly, dream big, embrace newness, and pursue passions to connect with purpose. Travel is the way that I show people that you can have the life of your dreams. It is also my way of building a bridge between what we think we know and what we do not understand. My hope is that people look at what I have done and know that they can conquer whatever fear may be lurking in their mind. It is about travel, yes. However, in the end, wedontsitoncouches is everything I believe I am and all I am meant to be.
Wedontsitoncouches is and everything that I want to represent. It is about facing challenges, not giving up, believing in yourself, pushing yourself, staring fear in the face, chasing dreams and winning. The highest point above Machu Picchu is the best view you will ever have (other than a helicopter or plane). At the top, you have access to a 360-degree view of the most majestic mountains you have ever seen, and the ruins of Machu Picchu are ant sized. When I completed the climb, I was exhausted but knew that I had accomplished what I would set out to do. I kept the promise to myself that I would get to that point and I fulfilled that promise.
